CEC can provide training of any suitable length to meet the requirements of a particular school. Below is a summary of some of the courses available, with suggested lengths, and a sample of feedback from schools.

NQT support and training
An Introduction to the Induction Journey A shorter training session ( 1-2 hours) that would cover:

  • Key legal responsibilities, entitlements and milestones
  • Understanding and Interpreting the Core Standards
  • Setting Objectives for Professional Development
  • Identifying quality evidence
  • Applying evidence to the Core Standards to show they have been met
Being an Effective NQT Mentor

A training session of 3-5 hours that would cover:

  • Legal background and framework for NQT induction
  • The key roles and responsibilities of a mentor
  • The essential qualities and skills of an effective mentor
  • Understanding and interpreting the Core Standards
  • Setting objectives for professional development in line with the Core Standards
  • Keeping a portfolio of evidence
  • Identifying quality evidence
  • Developmental observation skills
  • Giving effective feedback through the ‘Learning Conversation’

Managing Yourself and the Classroom

Becoming an Assertive Leader

A range of courses for teachers at different stages of their career, covering areas such as:

  • Managing your own feelings
  • Linking feelings with behaviour
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Assertive teacher behaviour
  • Managing pupil behaviour
  • Managing other adults
  • Planning for learning

Looking Beyond Induction

A 2 -3 hour course preparing for an NQT’s second year of teaching, including:

  • What is Continuing Professional Development?
  • Preferred learning and working styles
  • Effective leadership and management
  • The school as a learning organisation
  • The principles of performance management
  • Reflection – Where now?
